Lowrance Endura Wins Top Industry Award
07/23/09 10:00

Lowrance®, a brand by Navico, a leading global manufacturer of leisure navigation electronics, has won a top industry award for its new Endura Sierra handheld GPS.
The Lowrance Endura Sierra, the top of the range unit, gained accolade in the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD ‘Best Accessory’ category at the Outdoor Show in Friedrichschafen, Germany on July 16.
The Lowrance Endura series consists of three innovative touch-screen GPS handhelds: the flagship Sierra – the most powerful and complete outof-the-box GPS available; the Safari – a versatile navigator for any outdoor activity; and the Out&Back – setting a new standard in affordability and ease of use.
Now in its fourth year, the OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD, hosted by Messe Friedrichshafen and organized by iF, has a solid reputation among manufacturers, retailers and consumers. Some 242 entries were submitted from 18 different countries with a total of 63 products chosen as prizewinners.
A pan-European judging panel comprised of professional adventurers, outdoor magazine editors, and seasoned industry executives evaluated the product entries based on strict criteria including innovation, design quality, functionality and workmanship.
The innovative Sierra GPS device received praise for its design and advanced technical capabilities, and impressed judges with its combined touch-screen functionality and quick access buttons. The Sierra, along with the Safari and Out&Back, also offer unrivalled flexibility and access to the widest possible range of third party and community content.
Navico EMEA Operational Marketing Manager, Jo Bainbridge, said: “The Endura series continues to impress those with an active interest in the outdoors with its stylish design and impressive functionality. Our New Zealand based design agency, 4ormfunction and our internal mechanical designer Pablo Eynon have both done a fantastic job.”
“Earlier this year Lowrance welcomed Europe’s leading outdoor and technology journalists to a special Endura preview launch event in the Lake District. We received some very positive feedback and some excellent reviews in the outdoor and national press. This award is further recognition from industry experts of the quality and functionality of the Endura units.”
Lowrance received its award at the official ceremony on July 16 in Germany. Further award categories were ‘Apparel’, ‘Backpacks’, ‘Mountain Climbing Equipment’, ‘Camping Equipment’, ‘Sleeping Bags’, and ‘Products with High Ecological and Sustainable Value’. Winning products are showcased on the IF website www.ifdesign.de
Comments from the panel of judges included:
“One thing became very apparent in the 63 awards that were presented in this competition: Design, coupled with innovation, is still the essential principle in the outdoor industry. Product design is becoming more sophisticated, the workmanship of the products and the overall level of quality have improved significantly.”(Mark Held, European Outdoor Group)
“The OutDoor INDUSTRY AWARD is one of the most important awards in the outdoor industry and rewards the industry’s unabated innovative strength. Although there are not really that many revolutionary innovations, the continuous fine-tuning done on existing products over the years results in outdoor equipment that is getting better and better all the time.”(Frank Wacker, Editorial team outdoor, Motor Presse Stuttgart)

Lowrance Debuts World's First Fish- & Structure- Imaging Sonar With Full Panoramic Viewing
07/15/09 10:01

Electronics Leader Unveils LSS-1 StructureScan™ Sonar-Imaging Module Option for HDS at ICAST 2009
Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics, announced today the premier of its next-generation sonar technology, the LSS-1 StructureScan™ sonar imaging module for Lowrance High Definition Systems (HDS), at ICAST 2009 in Orlando, Florida. Raising the bar in fish-finding technology, the sonar-imaging module is the world’s first to offer anglers a new dimension in underwater picture-like displays — side-to-side plus straight down, full panoramic viewing.
The innovative Lowrance StructureScan features a combination of SideScan and an exclusive new DownScan Imaging™ technology. SideScan provides full-screen left and right side-viewing with extra-crisp detail of up to 480 ft. (146 m) of underwater coverage that displays structure and fish targets, as well as their imaging-scan shadows. The new DownScan Imaging feature allows anglers, for the first time, to see submerged detail directly beneath their boats, providing a complete underwater picture in a screen format that is easy to interpret. With revolutionary onscreen display versatility, anglers can merge Lowrance side and down sonar scans in splitscreen to view wide-area surveys and highly-defined detail. As a unique new tool, anglers can also compare DownScan Imaging with 2D sonar images in split-screen display to better distinguish fish from structure. Removing all of the guesswork common to existing fish-finding technology, the new LSS-1 delivers the highest underwater definition ever achieved with crystalclear views in shallow and deep, freshwater or saltwater – even at speeds up to 30 mph.
“The new StructureScan sonar-imaging module is another revolutionary step forward in sportfishing marine electronics from Lowrance,” said Louis Chemi, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Navico Americas. “Offering never-before-seen underwater detail, the sonar module is the first and only wide-coverage sonar solution that also delivers a total underwater panoramic picture — so anglers won’t miss a thing. Combine this new structureand fish-finding tool with additional cutting-edge features available with Lowrance’s HDS displays, such as built-in, award-winning 2D Broadband Sounder™, Insight mapping, Navionics® compatibility with Turboview™, award-winning Broadband Radar™ and SIRIUS® weather solutions, and the results are truly amazing.”
The LSS-1 StructureScan sonar imaging module allows anglers to cursor anywhere on the screen to receive information on distance from the boat and target depth for an exciting newlevel in precision bait or lure presentation. In addition, a new synchronized TrackBack™ function featuring simultaneous scroll-back in the recorded history of sonar or mapping windows, allows anglers to find spots and set waypoints for easy returns to desired fishing locations. Ensuring the ultimate in functionality, StructureScan sonar imaging can combine one or more views in a window to display HDS built-in Lowrance Lake Insight™, Nautic Insight™ or Insight USA™ cartography with Fishing Hot Spots® inland and coastal detail, as well as all Navionics Platinum, Platinum+ and other chart card offerings.
Based on Lowrance’s affordable, plug-and-play, onboard, high-speed Ethernet network, the LSS-1 StructureScan sonar imaging module is an optional add-on that easily networks with up to three onboard HDS displays to share SideScan, DownScan and 2D sonar imaging for boatwide underwater surveillance, each with independent control. Enhancing safety and fun on the water, the LSS-1 can also network with the new BR24 Broadband Radar and LWX-1 SIRIUS satellite weather module via Ethernet. The fully-waterproof LSS-1 module comes with a rugged, low-profile, dual-frequency 455 kHz and 800 kHz panoramic imaging transducer that is easy to install, and offers multiple mounting locations, including a simple adapter option for a trolling-motor mount. The transducer also features a built-in temperature sensor and operates in tandem with any HDS 2D sonar transducer without cross-talk interference for display clarity. Like all Lowrance products, the LSS-1 StructureScan sonar imaging module is protected by a two-year limited warranty.
Price & Availability:The new Lowrance LSS-1 StructureScan sonar imaging module, exclusive for HDS displays, has a suggested retail price of US $699.00, and will be available for purchase from authorized Lowrance dealers and distributors throughout the United States and Canada later this year. Marine
Electronics Leader Congratulates Scott Suggs and Todd
Driscoll on for Impressive Performances While Using
Lowrance Products
Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, announced today that Lowrance ProStaffer Scott Suggs received second place at the prestigious FLW Outdoors Tour. Fishing the four-day tournament at Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, on March 12-15, 2009, Suggs finished only 11 ounces behind winner Anthony Gagliardi. Taking home a $50,000 consolation prize, Suggs relied exclusively on a suite of Lowrance products, including the award-winning, next-generation Broadband Sounder for its advanced noise reduction, enhanced image quality and cutting-edge target display definition, to quickly eliminate unproductive water and locate active bass.
"I spent one whole day of practice doing nothing but idling huge flats in 100 feet of water using my Lowrance electronics to find schools of bait and bass suspended over trees," said Suggs. "And I found just what I was looking for—spotted bass suspended in about 25 to 30 feet of water over 40- and 50-foot trees. That Lowrance unit showed everything beautifully—the trees and the bass suspended right over the tops of them—it was picture perfect. My Lowrance graph played a huge part in my success.”
“Our congratulations go to Scott for his impressive performance at the 2009 FLW Outdoors Tournament,” said Gordon Sprouse, director of marketing, Navico. “We are thrilled to partner with him and support his angling drive. His success while using our best-in-class Broadband Sounder is a powerful testament to our industry-leading sonar capabilities.”
On the same weekend, bass angler and Lowrance ProStaffer Todd Driscoll earned championship honors worth $12,000, at the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series operated by American Bass Anglers on Sam Rayburn Lake in Jasper, Texas. Driscoll, who also uses Lowrance products exclusively, has made the cut to advance to the regional championship.

Lowrance Leads the Way at 39th Annual Bassmaster Classic
02/25/09 09:42
2009
Champion Skeet Reese, 17 Others in Final 25 Cut of
Classic Contenders Made Lowrance Their Choice for the
Red River Bass Competition
Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, continues to be the top professional anglers’ choice for fishfinding and navigation performance — as proven at the 39th Bassmaster Classic, hosted in Shreveport, Louisiana, February 20 – 22, 2009.
Of the 25 contenders who made the cut for Sunday’s final competition day, 17 used Lowrance exclusively -- including 2009 Classic champion Skeet Reese and the other top five pros. During the Bassmaster Classic, all contenders are allowed to fish from their own boats, equipped with the electronics of their choosing.
The 2009 Classic winner Skeet Reese attributed much of his success to his Lowrance equipment onboard. “It was awesome for this kind of fishery. I could easily find the breaks and position on the right stumps,” said Reese. “Without Lowrance, I would’ve been unable to see the key points and would’ve been fishing blind.”
“Even the Lowrance GPS maximized my efforts,” Reese said. “It guided me along a creek trail through stumps, and left a plot I could easily repeat. I had a safe trail to follow again and again, and that gave me a five-minute fishing time advantage each way.”
With his win, Reese joins a distinguished group of past Classic winners who depend on Lowrance. In fact, 8 of the last 10 Bassmaster Classic champions have equipped their personal boats with Lowrance.
“We congratulate Skeet on his well-deserved win, and we’re fortunate for all the years he’s been a part of the Lowrance Pro Team ,” said Gordon Sprouse, director of marketing for all Navico Americas brands. “With the new Lowrance High Definition System (HDS) displays now shipping, and a side-viewing add-on HDS option coming later in 2009, Skeet and others will be enjoying an even greater technology advantage in future bass tournaments.”
The Bassmaster Classic is considered the most prestigious freshwater fishing tournament in the world. The 2009 Bassmaster Classic attendance shattered all previous records, with a total attendance of 137,000 fishing fans besting the previous record of 82,600 attending the 2003 Classic in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Lowrance Introduces the BR24 Broadband Radar
02/12/09 09:49

Electronics Leader Unveils “New Wave” of Recreational Marine Radar for Use with HDS High-Definition System Multifunction Displays
Tulsa, Okla. – Lowrance, a world-leading brand in marine electronics since 1957 and GPS navigational systems since 1992, announced today its new innovative solid state radar solution, the BR24 Broadband Radar. The world’s first recreational marine Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radome, the BR24 represents the next generation of radar safety, affordability and ease of use. Combining straightforward installation, flexible antenna placement options and low power draw, Broadband Radar is the clear choice for every type of vessel.
The ultimate vessel navigation and collision avoidance accessory, the new Lowrance BR24 brings boaters of important performance and safety benefits, including superior target definition and target separation in close quarters, where it matters most. Boasting range resolution to less than 3-meters, the BR24 eliminates close-in vessel blind spot (main bang) resulting in crystalclear, highly-detailed intuitive views of surroundings to a 1/32 nautical mile range scale.
Incredibly safe, the new radome transmits at 1/20,000 the power of traditional radar (less than 1/10th the energy of a cell phone) and emits no harmful radiation outside the dome, allowing for flexible installation on a vessel. Other innovative features of the BR24 include, advanced clutter rejection which virtually eliminates tuning; rapid cold start and InstantOn™ from standby which eliminates time-wasting warm-up; and an incredibly low power consumption (30%-50% more efficient) when compared with traditional pulse radomes.
“After more than five years of intense research, development and testing, we’re very pleased to introduce this important breakthrough to the recreational marine industry,” said Jens-Thomas Pietralla, president and CEO, Navico. “Broadband Radar is a perfect example of our commitment to pioneering new technology and developing innovative new products. We didn’t simply enhance currently available technology; we took a bold new approach to developing better, safer and easier-to-use radar systems.”
Compatible with all Lowrance HDS (High Definition System) 5-, 7-, 8- and 10-inch multifunction displays, the Lowrance BR24 provides an effective 24 nm range and supports chart overlay, display networking, and more. The compact 18” radome measures 11.02-inch high x 19.27-inch diameter (280 mm x 488 mm), weighs 16.3 pounds (7.4 kg), and installs quickly with an easy-toroute 0.5-inch (13.5 mm) diameter scanner cable. Drawing 17 watts during operation (1.6 watts standby) the radome has an operating temperature range of -25 to +55-degrees Celsius. The BR24 is waterproof to the IPX6 standard, and is protected by a 2-year warranty.
Price & Availability: The new Lowrance BR24 Broadband Radar has a price of U.S. $1,699.00, and will be available in the second quarter of 2009 for purchase from authorized Lowrance dealers and distributors throughout the United States and Canada.
